Eagles Enjoy Strong Day at Embry-Riddle Last Chance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In the final meet prior to the NAIA Indoor National Championships, the Embry-Riddle track & field team enjoyed a strong day on the track at Saturday's Embry-Riddle Last Chance held at the ERAU Track Complex. The Eagles posted 10 “A” qualifying standards, three “B” standards, and also broke a pair of school records.

Breanna Goring turned in a time of 9.05 in the 60m hurdles, narrowly finishing behind Shorter's Porshe Holden for second place, but earning an “A” standard nonetheless.

The women's 1000m wasn't nearly as close as the 60m hurdles as Karina Coelho clocked an “A” standard time of 3:01.19, winning the event by nearly 15 seconds. Coelho also took home first place in the 800m, earning a “B” standard with a time of 2:19.02, just ahead of teammate Baleigh Hyatt, who also earned a “B” standard with a time of 2:19.78.

Ellie Staker turned in the third “A” standard for the Eagles, winning the women's 600m in 1:36.28. In the men's 600m, Mallory Jackson (1:20.63, 2nd) and Joe Fuller (1:20.78, 3rd) each recorded top-three finishes and “A” standard times.

The men got their third “A” standard in the 200m as Bryan Ray finished in 21.53, good for fourth place in the event.

The only school record to fall on the track was in the men's mile; Evans Kirwa clocked a time of 4:11.61, good for an “A” standard as well. But he wasn't the first-place finisher in the event, as he finished almost five seconds behind former Embry-Riddle track athlete Sam Vazquez. Vazquez competed in the meet as an unattached athlete.
